Make your staycation a YAY-cation
Posted on 16/05/17
It’s almost summer and that means we only have 1 thing on our minds ……
But where to? Sure, you could be seduced by the nightlife of Ibiza, the adventure of trekking in Vietnam, or the endless sandy beaches of the Algarve….
But there’s a lot to be said for rounding up your squad, loading up the cool box with some ham sandwiches and Lucozade and hitting the open road.
Forget the hassle of passports and boarding passes, all you need is a map, some wheels ... and probably a warm jumper and a rain coat (obvs).
Here are our favourite Staycation ideas for 2017
1. Surf Holiday
Ireland is a world-renowned surfing destination with salty thrill-seekers from all across the globe coming to our shores to ride the waves.
Get in on the act and visit a Surf School this summer.
Strandhill Surf School in Sligo gives surf lessons to beginners, intermediate & private group lessons. All you need is your togs and a towel and they provide everything else.
After your lessons, grab lunch in Shells café where they serve the most amazing fish and chips & homemade cakes.
And at the end of a long day, if you’re feeling a bit tired and a bit fancy, jump in a seaweed bath at Voya and chill.
So electric picnic pretty much sold out as last year’s bands were still winding up, so that’s not gonna happen – but who needs them anyway?
There are loads of smaller low-key festivals that are every bit as cool.
The SeaSessions in Bundoran is an annual event that is going from strength to strength, winning IMRO Live Music Festival of the year 2016.
Known for its laid back atmosphere and friendly feel, revelers can enjoy sea sports & BMX during the day, and take in diverse music acts at night, with this year’s headliners announced as Primal Scream, The Coronas, & Sigma.
Tickets are still available for the event that runs between 23rd-25th June.
There are some AMAZING glamping venues out there especially if you head on over to Fermanagh.
It’s like pretty much like camping had a major glow up with WiFi, a gamesroom, and a hot tub thrown in. Yes please!
A killer destination to hit with friends and fam is Todds Leap in Ballygawley.
There is no chill to be found here with tons of Adrenalin pumping activities to get stuck into.
Test your nerves on the ‘White Knuckle Run’ off road driving track, accelerate over a cliff edge on the giant swing, and take revenge on your squad on the paint balling combat sites.
After changing your underpants, head out for even more adventure with zip-lining, body zorbing, drop zone, climbing wall and loads, loads more.
At the end of a long day, crash in a snooze box – a re-purposed shipping container that sleeps five. Very grammable.
5. Road Trip
Going for a spin is basically in our DNA and is the best possible thing to do on a sunny day in Northern Ireland.
Kick your basic spin up a gear and indulge your obsession and make it Game of Thrones themed by visiting the 10 GOT doors dotted all-round the province.
The route takes you through the most jaw-droppingly epic scenery of the Mournes, the North Coast, Glens of Antrim, and the Lakes of Fermanagh.
Pack a tent and stop off for a night of camping, crisp sandwiches and ghost stories.
Whatever you do, be safe, be careful and be happy.
You got this!
