5 Of The Best New Year’s Resolution Ideas For You And Your Car
Posted on 02/01/18
2018 is here, which means it's time for making 'New Year, New Me' resolutions!
Top of most people's lists will be stuff like 'lose weight', 'quit smoking' or 'learn a language', but there's also plenty of great New Year's Resolutions both you and your car can benefit from:
Go On An Epic Roadtrip Adventure
If you ask us, the best part about driving is the ability to go anywhere at any time and there's little gets us more excited than gearing up for an epic roadtrip adventure with some good friends and good music!
Whether you venture near or far, 2018 is the perfect opportunity to expand your horizons and go somewhere new, purely because you can! You might want to road trip around Ireland, or maybe even venture further and drive across Europe!
But don't think you need to pile on the miles to have a proper good road trip; here's our pick of some of the best roadtrip ideas right here on our doorstep in Northern Ireland!
Buy Your Car A Present
Accessories are one of the best ways to turn a slightly boring car into a really cool one, and also to truly make it your own.
After all, you'll likely spend a lot of time in it, so why not make it a little more comfortable, snazzier looking or techier? There's all sorts you can get, from plug-in USB chargers to custom stickers, stereos and even a device that stops your loose change falling down the side of your seat!
If you're looking for inspiration, here's a list of some of the coolest gadgets and accessories you can get for your car. Oh, and here's a list of those you should probably avoid while you're at it...
Clean Your Car More Often
Here's one we're very guilty of; letting your car get filthy! Not only does it make you look like a bad owner, all that dirt, grime and road grit can accelerate wear on your car and even cause it prematurely rust or break down!
Keeping things clean doesn't just apply to the outside either, and we all know someone who treats their car like a mobile bin.
But you'll be shocked to know that more than half of cars could be harbouring seriously deadly bacteria like E.coli and Staphylococcus - which can cause food poisoning, conjunctivitis and lung rot!
Give Your Car Regular Health Check-Ups
Just like people, your car can get sick. And, the longer you go without checking up on it or ignoring problems, the worse it'll get.
That rattle might be just a rattle for now, but given time it could develop into a much more serious problem, just as simple illnesses in people can quickly turn into something much more nasty.
We're not saying you need to jack it up for an inspection or change the oil every time you take a trip to the shops, but simple things like making sure it's serviced twice a year can go a long way towards keeping your car happy and able to pass its MOT first time!
Put Your Phone Down!
Back to news
It's sad that people still have to be told about the dangers of using your phone while driving, and sadder still that despite the increased awareness it's only getting worse.
According to police data, 150 drivers were caught by the cops for using a phone while driving in the first half of 2017. Throughout the second half, that rose to more than 200 a day.
As one writer put it, texting and driving is like the equivalent of juggling a shotgun while trying to figure out a Rubik's cube. No text or notification is important enough to risk your life, or the lives of other people, on the roads.
So please, if you ignore every other point on this list, that's fine. But if there's one New Year's Resolution that's worth sticking to this year, it's keeping your phone in your pocket.
