Respect the Road

What is it?

For 5 years, we have brought our Schools programme to 50,000 pupils across Northern Ireland. We feel strongly about educating young people about the importance of road safety, raising awareness of the primary causes of accidents and playing our small part in helping to reduce the number of fatalities that are occurring on our roads.

Our Workshop

Our Respect the Road programme can be tailored to suit your timetable and the needs of your students. There are a number of options available:

1. Presentation only: Our presentation is delivered by Tracey Doherty, a former Road Education and Family Liaison Officer, who brings her wealth of real life experiences to the workshop. We focus on issues including speed, mobile phone use and rural driving, using statistics, videos and discussion-based activities. Our aim is to help students consider the risks and consequences of dangerous driving and learn how they can stay safe behind the wheel. (Lasts approx. 1 hour.)

2. Car Accident Simulator only: Our simulator is a specially modified car that uses sound, hydraulics and a smoke and light system to recreate a real accident which resulted in multiple fatalities and a prison sentence for one 17 year old driverThis experience is extremely effective in demonstrating the powerful message of how irresponsible driving can result in devastating, irreversible consequences. (The car seats 5 people at a time lasting approx. 10 minutes, and can accomodate approx. 30 pupils per hour.)

3. Full Programme: Presentation and Simulator experience: Our most popular option combines the in-class presentation and Simulator experience.

Get Involved

The programme is suitable for pupils aged 16 years and above and we deliver the programme mostly to pupils from GCSE MVRUS, the 6th Form Enrichment programme and Lower 6th and Upper 6th Year Groups. We also visit higher education colleges and universities.

We’re flexible and understand that busy timetables can often mean it can be difficult to fit a programme such as this into an already busy calendar. We can offer the presentation only, simulator only or a combination of both, to suit your requirements.
