#NIatChristmas: Instagrammable activities to spread Christmas Cheer

Blog

It’s fair to say that when it comes to Christmas, we’re all over it. While we’re not big fans of the dark evenings and freezing temperatures, we absolutely love the twinkling lights, mince pies, blasting some Mariah while we wrap gifts and snuggling up by the fire with a hot chocolate and our favourite festive movies.

The run up to the festive season in NI is pretty great, but if you’re stuck for what to get up to over the coming weeks, we scanned Instagram for some ideas sure to get you full of Christmas cheer.

There’s no better feeling than a fresh head on a Sunday so why not get out into nature and enjoy a crisp winter walk to get your week off to a good start. Glenariff Forest Park is one of the nine Antrim Glens and covers over 1000 hectares with woodland, lakes and spectacular views. You’ll really deserve that extra mince pie later!

Belfast Christmas Market is *kind of* an institution in Northern Ireland and no December would be the same without a visit to the twinkling grounds of City Hall. This year, the market runs from 18th November - 23rd December and all our favourite craft and food stalls will be there. The Dutch pancakes with butter and sugar are always a winner and we just can’t say no to the Spanish paella. Make sure you go hungry and wrap up warm.

Christmassy drinks are without a doubt one of our favourite things about the holiday season. Whether it’s mulled wine, hot chocolate or Christmas coffees, we love them all! If you’re after something fancier than a Starbucks red cup, check out Baker Street Belfast – it’s a family run restaurant on the Belmont Road that are giving us major Christmas feels with their amazing Crème Brulee Lattes and Christmas Menu with a twist. *drools*

If you’re stuck for pressie ideas, why not get your close friends together and book a night in a cosy cottage. Colebrook Self-Catering Cottages could be just the thing to celebrate Christmas or New Year with a difference. Whitehill Cottage sleeps 4 and is nestled right in the heart of the Fermanagh Lakelands. There’s a wood-burning stove, loads of board games and movies to keep you entertained and there’s a spa close by if you need some extra pampering. You deserve it.

Shopping is probably the only festive activity that can be hit and miss but at Victoria Square, it’s just too pretty to even get stressed about present buying. There are Christmas Choirs in the shopping centre throughout December and with the magical Christmas displays, you’ll be feeling happy and chill in no time. Just look at that tree!

One of the loveliest things about the season is the countless catch ups with friends and family in cosy surroundings. The Bushmills Inn in Antrim transforms into a Winter Wonderland in November and December, with a roaring fire and a delicious food menu. Whatever you do, don’t miss the Christmas Music Nights every Friday and Saturday in December PLUS there are Christmas movie nights throughout the month with all our faves - Elf, The Holiday and It’s a Wonderful Life! Christmas plans sorted!
